I am currently the Senior Program Administrator for the Spectrum Health Neurology Residency. I have held this position since 2013. I enjoy working with the residents. It is the part of my position that I truly enjoy, watching them go through their training, graduate, and go out on their own.
I started in the GME world as the Program Administrator for the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship in 1999, doing this part time along with an office administrator career. I took on the Transitional Year Residency in February of 2009. It was a decision that I did not have a hard time making, as I truly felt the need to be part of GME full time. That brought me to 20 TY Residents, and 2 Fellows. Busy? Yes, but again fulfilling in my career.
I participate in both local and national meetings. I believe that the medical community in Grand Rapids is growing and expanding to meet our local needs, but also can meet the current, ever changing needs of medicine on a national level. It is very exciting to work in Grand Rapids and see the evolution of medicine from the perspective of a program administrator having now had the opportunity to work with several diverse programs.
