Why I chose to practice in Grand Rapids...

Grand Rapids is a beautiful city with a thriving medical community. As a MSU medical student, I did my clinical years here. I was amazed the vast diversity of patients and spectrum of pathology. I was also very impressed by the quality of education I recieved and high quality physician mentors that took a special interest in my learning. This made me fall in love with the medical community and I decided to do residency here. My experience only got better. I took an interest in academic medicine and administration and served as chief resident my final year of residency. I joined the Hospitalist group at Spectrum Health after graduation. During my time here I have seen a tremendous enhancement in the development of medical programs such as bone marrow transplant, heart and lung transplant and the construction of the neurosciences program to name a few. It's a privilege to be a part of the blossoming system that is serving the community by providing supreme quality care while keeping the education of future physicians and residents as a high priority.

I have worked with Spectrum Health for 23 years. The System has grown significantly and I have learned and matured a lot over these years.

I like to take every day as an opportunity to learn and grow, not only in my profession, but also as a person. I grew up in the Grand Rapids area, but was lucky enough to spend several years living abroad and traveling. I have lived in Russia, Germany, and Switzerland, but am so happy to call Grand Rapids my home. I have twin boys who take up the majority of my time outside of work. We enjoy year-round outdoor activities, and spending time together as a family. Grand Rapids is a great place to live, work, and enjoy a great family lifestyle.

My husband and I are originally from Grand Rapids and have our support system here. I have been incredibly impressed with what the medical field has to offer here in West Michigan. The diversity of patients and pathology, advanced technology, and innovative delivery systems are comparable to any esteemed university, all in a supportive and tight-knit community. When I think of the ideal learning and practice environment, Grand Rapids has it all.
