Why I chose to practice in Grand Rapids...

I grew up in Grand Rapids and my father was a surgeon at Butterworth for over 30 years. Grand Rapids has a thriving medical community is a great place to practice.

Donald Kim, MD

Dr. Kim joined the Ferguson Clinic in 1999. After completing medical school at Loyola University, he stayed in Chicago to complete a general surgery residency at Loyola University. He subsequently completed a colorectal surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota before joining the faculty in 1999. He is actively involved in the fellowship program and research. He was the first to start robotic assisted colon surgery at the Ferguson Clinic and his other interests include TEMS/TAMIS, STARR, SILS, and InterStim for fecal incontinence. He is an avid runner and has completed many local and national marathons. He is married with three grown children.

Dr. Heather Slay joined the faculty in 2006.  She graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA, and completed her general surgery residency at Emory as well.  She spent one year on faculty at Emory before coming to Grand Rapids where she completed her fellowship with the GRMEP Colon and Rectal Surgery Program at the Ferguson Clinic. She is married with three children.
